What Am I Thankful For?

My education is something that I take very serious. As a young girl with many big goals and dreams, I take every step I possibly can to ensure myself that I will accomplish them all. I love learning and increasing my level of knowledge day by day. It is important to me that I graduate from high school and get a college degree. One thing I am thankful for in regards to my education is the opportunity I have been blessed with to take dual enrollment classes while in high school.

Through the GEAR UP Alabama program I was given the chance to take dual enrollment courses online with the University of Alabama at Birmingham. GEAR UP Alabama has paid for all of my classes so that the only thing that I have to focus on is exceeding in my classes. Who would pass up the chance to take college courses free of charge to them? When I was presented with this wonderful opportunity, I knew immediately that I wanted to get on board. I could not pass this up. GEAR UP saw potential in me which motivated me to take advantage of the accolade given to me. As a junior in high school, I have now successfully completed four online classes and momentarily completing my fifth. I currently maintain a 3.8 GPA at UAB. Of course it gets hard at times trying to juggle my school work along with my online classes, but I refuse to give up. Not many people can do this and I am so grateful I am one of those who can. Being able to have multiple college classes knocked out before I graduate from high school makes me so happy and proud of myself. When I finally go to college I will have a good bit of my classes under my belt. This means that while in college I could possibly graduate early if I have built up enough credit hours.

As I stated earlier, I take pride in my education. Especially being in my last two years it is important to me that I do everything I possibly can to get ahead and prepare for college. Education is a powerful tool that can take you anywhere you would like to go in any career. I have faith that one day my education will get me a successful career in Business Management, and for this I am grateful.
